Vučić decided - no one from Serbia is going to Brussels; Dodik: His position represents defense of Serb people
The decision of the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, not to participate in the European Union - Western Balkans Summit is rational, statesmanlike and completely understandable, announced last night president of Republika Srpska (SNSD), Milorad Dodik.
"The hypocrisy and disrespect that the Brussels bureaucracy shows towards Serbia and the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija and in the Republic of Srpska can no longer be accepted or tolerated," Dodik wrote on his account on the X network.
According to him, the Serbian people are being asked to agree to conditions that no one can agree to.
"The position of President Vučić represents the defense of the dignity of Serbia and the Serbian people and the right to equality with other nations," Dodik believes.
He assessed that the EU at the same time shows a degrading attitude towards Bosnia and Herzegovina, not respecting its constitutional structure.
"The Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina is a collective body, which makes decisions by consensus, that's why one member, Željko Komšić, cannot represent Bosnia and Herzegovina. The position of Republika Srpska is clear and decisive - partnership yes, humiliation never", said the SNSD president.
And the Minister for European Integration in the Government of the Republic of Serbia, Nemanja Starović, said that he fully supports the position of the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, that Serbia does not participate in today's summit of the European Union and the Western Balkans.
"Such a decision is an expression of real commitment to our path to membership in the European Union, which can only be realistic and sustainable if it is based on merit, mutual respect and sincere commitment to a common future," Starović pointed out.
As he added, with the short-sighted lack of will to evaluate the results of the reforms in the last four years, starting with the amendments to the Constitution at the beginning of 2022 and onwards, with one symbolic procedural step in the accession negotiations, the citizens of our country were sent a very bad message that only feeds anti-European narratives and discourages the bearers of reform processes in society.
"Therefore, by absenting ourselves from today's gathering, we are not only defending the dignity of our people, but also the integrity of the accession process, as well as the credibility of the European idea in Serbia. With gratitude to colleagues from the European Commission, as well as numerous EU member states who have rightly recognized Serbia's commitment to reforms, I express my hope that the remaining member states will soon join the political consensus that is necessary to overcome the deadlock to which Serbia is exposed without sufficient real reasons," Nemanja Starović concluded on the X network.
