Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic says that no agreement has yet been reached on the reconfiguration of the UNMIK mission in Kosovo. For this reason it was still not clear whether the UN Security Council session on Kosovo scheduled for Friday would even go ahead, said Jeremic. Jeremic: Still no agreement on reconfiguration “For now no agreement has been reached meeting our conditions. We have clearly stated that reconfiguration of the international presence is possible only if it does not involve implementation of the Ahtisaari Plan, if it is strategically neutral, and if it has the Security Council’s explicit endorsement,“ the minister told journalists in the Hyatt Hotel, where the Serbian Economic Summit is under way. He said that there was no agreement over the six points relating to the UN’s special role in all parts of the province with majority Serb populations. “Without an agreement on those principles, Serbia will not give its blessing. Without Serbia’s approval, approval from the Security Council is also highly unlikely,“ said Jeremic. Earlier at the summit, the minister said that Serbia was determined to be a responsible partner in the region and reach a historic agreement over Kosovo. “By renouncing force and unilateralism, we have chosen to defend our sovereignty and territorial integrity through diplomatic means and international law,“ said the foreign minister. He said that in that context, Serbia, via the UN General Assembly, had asked the International Court of Justice to give its advisory opinion on the legality of Kosovo’s unilateral independence declaration. “The result of this is that for the first time in the history of South-East Europe an issue of fundamental importance will be settled without the use of force,“ he underlined.
