The UN envoy in the negotiations between Greece and Macedonia over Macedonia’s name, Mathew Nimetz, has submitted a new proposal. The proposal which Nimetz gave to both sides in New York has a geographical determinant and is very close to the dual formula that the Macedonian government supports. New name proposal: North Macedonia According to unofficial media reports, in talks with Macedonian and Greek representatives yesterday, Nimetz proposed the name “The Republic of North Macedonia”, or “North Macedonia” for short for international purposes, although the Greek negotiators insist on one name for all purposes. “Today I presented a set of ideas for a solution, the negotiators will take this back to their capitals. It calls for careful discussions and we will extend dialogue on that basis,” Nimetz told a press conference in New York after meeting with Greek and Macedonian negotiators. Nimetz denied speculation that surfaced recently that this proposal would be a case of “take it or leave it”.
