In order to be made a candidate for EU membership Serbia must reach agreements with Pristina, says a senior official of the ruling Democrats (DS). "Either we will be informed by the negotiating team on February 27 that agreements have been reached and signed, or we will not have a positive answer from Brussels. There's nothing in between," Gordana Comic told national broadcaster RTS on Wednesday evening in Belgrade. "No candidate status without deal with Pristina" Comic, who also serves as deputy parliament speaker, added that she would "are to say that progress has been made compared to December 9" - when the EU postponed its decision on Serbia's bid. She stressed that "results in the field were needed" and that "a policy of intentions" would not suffice. However, opposition SNS party official Marko Djuric, who was taking part in the same program, stated that "nothing will essentially change in the next month", and that the government in Serbia "was not capable of making a breakthrough needed to join the EU". He added that the authorities were dealing with Kosovo only when they had to. Opposition DSS party spokesperson Petar Petkovic also spoke for the program to say that issues related to its enlargement are not on EU's agenda at all. Petkovic believes that any decision on Serbia's candidacy, even if positive, "would not be realistic, and would not influence the enlargement of the EU". Gordana Comic (Tanjug, file) RTS Tanjug
