Justice Ministry State Secretary Slobodan Homen says the government welcomes the possibility of Croatia dropping its genocide lawsuit filed against Serbia. He pointed out that it would contribute to the withdrawal of Serbia's counter-suit, also accusing Croatia of committing genocide - "which would create conditions for talks on the solving of important issues". Serbia favors withdrawal of lawsuits "As Serbian government, we welcome the possibility of withdrawal of lawsuit by Croatia, as that is the best way to solve problems," Homen stated for state broadcaster RTS in Belgrade on Tuesday. According to him, Croatia has raised three important issues - the return of cultural treasures, war crimes, and return of property. He qualified as most important the solving of the issue of return of property, primarily the issue of housing rights, which in 50,000 cases are still disputable. Homen stressed that Serbia's main interest is the return of property, return of refugees and solving of the issue of war crimes, adding that the perpetrators should be found and cases analyzed, so as to find the right solutions. It is necessary for the prosecutor's offices of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia and Serbia to determine who really committed war crimes, and then decide where the trials should be held, Homen underlined. He believes it is best if Croatia withdrew the lawsuit, which would certainly lead to the withdrawal of the counter-suit, and create basis for negotiations. However, this cannot happen if there is no political will, Homen said. Slobodan Homen (FoNet, file) RTS Tanjug
