President Boris Tadic believes the Dutch parliament and countries that have not ratified the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) will do so soon. “There should be no drama about this, the Dutch parliament said that it was waiting for its government to issue its official stand,” he pointed out. Tadic believes Holland will ratify SAA The Dutch parliament on Wednesday refused to start the SAA ratification process until Hague Tribunal Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz published his official report. Brammertz praised Serbia for arresting and extraditing Ratko Mladic in his oral report to the UN Security Council on June 6. Tadic pointed out that Serbia should not be discouraged by every slightly unfavorable information and recalled that the country's top goal was to obtain the EU candidate status, while an even more important aim was to get the date of accession talks set after which, as he said, there can be no going back. On Wednesday, the Dutch parliament did not accept the proposition by chair of the parliamentary foreign affairs committee Henk Jan Ormel regarding the initiation of the SAA ratification process. The Dutch have so far been conditioning continuation of Serbia’s EU integration by full cooperation with the Hague Tribunal. Bearing in mind that Brammertz’s written report was negative since it had been written before Mladic was arrested, the Hague Tribunal chief prosecutor praised Serbia in his oral presentation before the UN Security Council on June 6. The Netherlands is now waiting for an official assessment of Serbia’s cooperation with The Hague. 18 out of 27 EU member states have so far ratified the SAA between Serbia and the EU. Boris Tadic
