IM condemns Rexhepi statement

Interior Minister Ivica Dacic followed the lead of the president, condemning a Pristina official's statement regarding sending special police to north Kosovo. He said that “Serbia cannot close its eyes to what is happening to Serbs in Kosovo,” and warned that every use of violent methods would destabilize the entire region. IM condemns Rexhepi statement Kosovo Ministry State Secretary Oliver Ivanovic said that every effort by the Kosovo Albanians to use force in northern Kosovo could cause unforeseeable reactions. “All Kosovo Albanians believe that independence is a done deal, but Bajram Rexhepi knows and remembers the 1990s, and knows that such a statement could cause a reaction. Every effort by the Albanians to come to the north with force and try to change the current situation could cause unforeseeable reactions, and then there would be victims on both sides, which no one needs,” Ivanovic said. Rexhepi stated that Pristina would be sending special police forces to northern Kosovo in order to establish peace and order, claiming that Kosovo police have signed an agreement with EULEX regarding these plans. Kosovo Ministry State Secretary Oliver Ivanović said that every effort by the Kosovo Albanians to use force in northern Kosovo could cause unforeseeable reactions.

“All Kosovo Albanians believe that independence is a done deal, but Bajram Rexhepi knows and remembers the 1990s, and knows that such a statement could cause a reaction. Every effort by the Albanians to come to the north with force and try to change the current situation could cause unforeseeable reactions, and then there would be victims on both sides, which no one needs,” Ivanović said.

Rexhepi stated that Priština would be sending special police forces to northern Kosovo in order to establish peace and order, claiming that Kosovo police have signed an agreement with EULEX regarding these plans.

The EU Kosovo mission stated that the situation in northern Kosovo is peaceful and that there is no such agreement with the Kosovo police, EULEX has confirmed.
