According to Belgrade daily Blic, SRS leader Vojislav Seselj "ordered the assassination of his former deputy Tomislav Nikolic". For the past seven years, Seselj has been detained at the Hague Tribunal undergoing trial on war crimes charges, while Nikolic broke away from the Radicals (SRS) in the meantime, setting up his own party, the Serb Progressives (SNS). Daily: Seselj ordered assassination of rival Now the newspaper claims in an article published today that the plot to kill Nikolic was uncovered by the "Serbian security services on Monday, which led to security being elevated to the highest level at Monday’s opposition rally in Krusevac". According to unnamed sources, Seselj ordered the assassination from The Hague, and allegedly sought the services of notorious criminal Luka Bojovic. Bojovic "had already prepared a team for the task", the daily states. According to this, the main organizer of the assassination was supposed to be Milos Simovic, the Zemun Clan member who was recently arrested at the Serbian border after allegedly trying to kill fellow gang member Sretko Kalinic in Zagreb. Blic writes that the security services are working hard into the case and according to initial information, the plan for the assassination was already made and logistics and weapons were also secured. The services are now trying to find out the identity of the middleman between Seselj and Bojovic, says the article. Security services believe that the connection dates back to before the assassination of prime minister Zoran Djindjic, "when Seselj had contacts with Zemun Clan leaders Dusan Spasojevic and Mile Lukovic," the newspaper writes.
