Details of funeral preparations revealed

His Holiness Patriarch Pavle will be laid to rest on Thursday, Nov. 19, at 13:00 CET, at the grounds of the Rakovica monastery. This was revealed on Monday after a meeting of a Church committee set up to organize the funeral of the leader of the Serb Orthodox Christians, who passed away on Sunday in Belgrade. Details of funeral preparations revealed The body of Patriarch Pavle was transferred to the Cathedral Church of St. Michael the Archangel on the same day, where Holy Liturgies and commemorations are served daily, the Church announced. Tousands of people have been paying respects to the patriarch evers since. Serbia is observing three days of mourning. Bishop of Backa Irinej confirmed that on the day of the funeral, Holy Liturgy would commence at 07:30 CET at the Cathedral Church. Two hours later, the coffin with the body of Patriarch Pavle will be transferred in a funeral procession to St. Sava's Temple, where at 11:00 CET the funeral service will be served. Afterwards, the burial will be held at the church yard of the Monastery of St. Michael the Archangel in Rakovica, near Belgrade. According to the Patriarch's personal request and recommendation, the Holy Synod appealed to all faithful not to bring wreaths to the funeral service, but to only light candles, and instead, according to their possibilities and wishes, donate toward the completion of the temple. Meanwhile in Rakovica yesterday, preparations for the funeral were underway. Residents of Rakovica and many others came to the monastery’s sisterhood to offer help doing work in the garden, mowing the lawns, collecting the fallen leaves. The burial place has been determined – next to the first patriarch of the renewed Serbian Patriarchy Dimitrije, laid to rest there in 1930. The patriarch’s wish to be buried here did not come as a surprise to the sisters of the monastery. Even the citizens who often visit the monastery knew of it.
