Meeting with EU Three cancelled

The Finnish Presidency’s Press Counsellor, Marko Ruonala confirmed this for Beta. He said that the decision was made because the necessary conditions for holding the meeting have not been met, and added that there are no ideas of when the meeting could be held.

Sources from within the EU claim that the meeting, in which Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Ivana Dulić-Marković was scheduled to participate, was cancelled because the EU officials feel that there is no reason for holding the meeting until the EU sees whether the government in Belgrade will make significant progress in cooperation with the Tribunal by the beginning of October.

However, the September 29 meeting of EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn and Hague Chief Prosecutor Carla Del Ponte will be held in Helsinki.

Del Ponte will report to Rehn on whether Serbia has made any progress in implementing its Action Plan for Hague Cooperation.

“The way things are, we find ourselves almost at a dead end – in front of a wall. Even though a lot of progress has been made up until now, with the postponement of the discussions with Serbia and the technical questions, there is still a chance that the stabilization and association agreement could be signed by the end of the year with Serbia,” sources from the European Commission stated.
