Once the EU makes its decision on Serbia's candidate status the Serbian government is planning on setting the election date, daily Vecernje novosti has learned. The government is planning on setting a date for the parliamentary elections after the European Council decides on Serbia's candidate status. Daily: Election date after candidate status decision It has been agreed to sweep all quarrels, public attacks and disputes under the rug at least until the decision is made in Brussels, the daily writes. According to daily's sources, the ruling coalition will after that only adopt the state budget before being dissolved. According to the daily, the ruling coalition believes that the government should during the election campaign propose only necessary bills. The election campaign will probably last unitl May 6, when the elections are expected to be held. The ruling coalition came up with the scenario after four Serbian Renewal Movement (SPO) MPs left a parliament session a few days ago and showed that they too could easily topple Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic's government. Parliament Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic has also confirmed that tensions have been temporarily eased. “I have received confirmations from parliamentary group whips that there will be quorum and that we will provide majority in order to vote in bills. But if the agreement is not respected, the elections will be in sight,” she stressed.
