Opposition SNS and NS parties say they will organize a rally in Belgrade in mid-September. They will ask for early elections to be called in the country, writes Belgrade daily Vecernje Novosti. Opposition parties announce rally The two parties are working to persuade DSS to join them, says the report. "After everything that's been going on in Serbia and after such torment over Kosovo, I'm afraid a series of rallies could occur even without us organizing them," said SNS leader Tomislav Nikolic. He added that he feared a "broader rebellion that we could not control". "Some will take it to the streets because they're jobless, others because of Kosovo, others yet because we're all being lied to that we live better now than last year," said Nikolic. NS leader Velimir Ilic said that SNS, DSS and his party must draft a joint strategy for the coming period, and said he expected a "hot September". "I'm sure the temperature will rise when some prices rise, and for that reason we must face the people and ask the government to call early elections. That would be their only sensible option now," said Ilic. Meanwhile, NS coalition partners, Vojislav Kostunica's DSS, said they had no information about the plans to organize the rally, and would not offer any further comment. Opposition SRS, said it was opposed to campaigns organized by SNS, their former fellow Radicals. Nikolic and Ilic in parliament (FoNet, file)
