Montenegrin ruling SDP official Miodrag Vukovic said that political leaders from Montenegro have accepted that “Serbia is their motherland.” He was referring to officials from Montenegro’s the Socialist People’s Party, New Serb Democracy, the People’s Party and Democratic Serb Party, who recently attended a reception hosted by Serbian President Boris Tadic, organized as a new law on the Diaspora and Serbs in the region took effect. No one has two motherlands, says Montenegrin official “They accepted that Serbia is their motherland and they must say what Montenegro is to them, because no one can have two motherlands,” Vukovic believes. He also said that it “is not good for Serbian officials to interfere and comment too much on the status of Serbs in Montenegro,” adding that a principle of reciprocity should exist between the two countries. Vukovic went on to say that what one asks from one country for your compatriots, “should be allowed to that same country to realize for their own in your country”. “I ask myself what the circumstances of Montenegrins in Serbia are, the Montenegrin language, church, national community,” he continued. Vukovic also said that no ethnic community was endangered in Montenegro, but said that “all people are endangered because of the economic situation”. “The problem within the Serb national community in Montenegro was not created by the government, it was created through the ambitions, small and large, acceptable and unacceptable, of Serb leaders,” said he.
