Serbian lawyers end "warning strike"
Lawyers in Serbia have ended their strike of warning against a plan to force them to introduce fiscal registers.

Lawyers in Serbia have ended their strike of warning against a plan to force them to introduce fiscal registers. However, they announced they would embark on a general strike and block regular operation of the justice system, if the Serbian government does not amend the provision that envisages introduction of fiscal charging for their services by the end of the year. Serbian lawyers end "warning strike" In the past three days 7,000 lawyers stopped working and therefore several hundreds of trials and investigations were postponed, due to their request or pursuant to the law which in some parts of the penalty and pre-penalty procedure proscribes mandatory presence of a lawyer that is the defender of the accused. The Ministry of Trade, which is the pushing for the contentious provision to be introduced, has not issued any explicit statements yet over the lawyers' requests, whereas the Ministry of Justice submitted an oral initiative to reexamine the provision on introducing fiscal registers in the legal profession, "since such manner of charging for legal services does not exist in any EU state".
