SPS official Branko Ruzic believes that the work of parliament will be unblocked next week. “I believe that it’s high time for us to find the lowest common denominator for all officials in parliament, so we can get Serbia out of neutral,” the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) official told daily Vecernje Novosti. SPS expecting parliamentary breakthrough “We will be holding talks with the opposition, first informally, and then official consultations in order to find a detailed agreement for continuing the session scheduled for Tuesday,” he explained. Ruzic said that the agenda had been confirmed—ratification of the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA), the energy agreement with Russia, a series of loans, and the resolution on continuing the state policy on Kosovo. Following statements from the Serb Radical Party (SRS) that it wanted to talk about the arrest of Radovan Karadzic, and from the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) that it wanted to discuss EULEX, the SPS official said that he believed that “the opposition will stop trying to avoid talking about priority issues.” “The four topics on the agenda are issues regarding the future of the country and a better life for its citizens,” Ruzic said. Asked what would happen if the SRS opened a discussion on the death of one of its activists at the rally they held in protest against the arrest of Radovan Karadzic, he said that “our party will not run from any topic. One solution is to form a committee to assess certain events in detail.” Asked whether the opposition’s proposal for relieving Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic of her duties as parliamentary speaker would reach the agenda, Ruzic said that it would, but that Djukic-Dejanovic would remain speaker. Ruzic said that the SPS’s only partner in the Belgrade Assembly was the Democratic Party (DS), and that the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) was the DS’s partner. Asked when the declaration of reconciliation would be signed between the DS and SPS, he said that the text of the document was “visionary and based on values that Serbia needs to strive towards in future.” “We will pick the best moment for the official signing of the declaration. It will be our beacon in future political activity,” the SPS official underlined.
