The constitutive session of the Vojvodina assembly, where the DS-led coalition has a majority, has been called. Although the “For a European Vojvodina“ list, made up of the Democratic Party (DS) and G17 Plus holds 65 of the assembly’s 120 seats, it is looking increasingly likely that they will share provincial power with the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS). DS, SPS negotiating in Vojvodina Bojan Pajtic, first minister during the assembly’s previous mandate and favorite to continue in that role, said however that talks with the SPS over their participation in the provincial government were not over. Pajtic said that during the talks, one eye was being kept on developments on the formation of a government at Belgrade local level, since, he said, the sustainability of policy depended on who had a majority in Belgrade, and who in Vojvodina. “Without those two segments, it’s hard to lead the state towards the EU. So, it’s important to establish a pro-European majority both in Belgrade and Vojvodina, and for such a majority to be a prop to what’s going on at central level, so that we can all move forward. It’s certainly a good signal that the SPS and the Radicals have not formed a majority in Belgrade,“ he said. The Vojvodina Assembly (B92, archive)
