Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov says that the election results have confirmed the democratic character of the Serbian state.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov says that the election results have confirmed the democratic character of the Serbian state. Lavrov said that Russia was maintaining contact with all the political forces in Serbia, and that “there is no prejudice towards any of the political movements.” Lavrov: Elections prove Serbia's democratic character “They all represent the Serbian people, who are very close to us,” Lavrov said in Ekaterinburg, adding that Russia “is not inclined to meddle in internal processes in other countries, as should be the policy of all other countries.” In that regard, in response to journalists’ questions concerning the outcome of the Serbian parliamentary elections, the minister said that he saw the “logic” of the theory that the results should “favor either Russia or the EU.” He replied, however, that Russia did not apply that logic, adding that “Serbia should not be viewed as a battlefield between Russia and the West.” Sergei Lavrov (FoNet, archive)
