The Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) say that they are the only winners of the presidential ballot. They said that they would decide who to lend their support to in round two at a meeting of the party's main board. Socialists hail election "triumph" “We’ve achieved our aim and shown that we’re an important party that is one of the main actors on the Serbian political scene,“ SPS leader Ivica Dacic told a press conference at party headquarters. The party’s presidential candidate, Milutin Mrkonjic, thanked his supporters, and congratulated the two candidates who had reached the second round as well as journalists who had “performed better than at the last elections.“ Mrkonjic said that the SPS expected his party to show that they were one of the leading parties on the political scene at the forthcoming local elections. Dacic said that the Socialist candidate had received seven percent or just over 250,000 votes, “which has created quite a huge stir .“ He said that “the Socialists aren’t masochists“ and that, in the second round, they would not support those who had wished to destroy them, nor those who had in the past attempted to poach their voters in various ways.
