Environment Minister Sasa Dragin says that the Danube River is more polluted now than it was in 2001. Dragin said that that results of a series of tests performed by the Argus ship-laboratory show that the Danube has significantly larger levels of pollution today than it did six years ago. Danube River pollution on rise He said that the results of an international expert expedition which studied samples of the Danube’s water from Germany all the way to the Black Sea, show greater pollution levels, especially in the middle and lower currents. “The pollution coming from the larger cities on the coast of the Danube has increased,” Dragin said, adding that the complete results will be finished by next summer. He told daily Politika that the water quality research will help countries who rely on the Danube to implement more thorougly the conventions for protecting the river.
