The U.S. plans to withdraw about 7,000 troops of the 81,000 U.S. troops based in Europe, U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta has said. Panetta told the Armed Forces Press Service that two brigade combat teams, or roughly 7,000 U.S. troops, would be withdrawn from Europe, but rotational units would still maintain strong military presence in the region.
