German doctors are hoping a new anti-body therapy will be effective in treating the deadly E.Coli bug that has so far killed 19 people.

German doctors are hoping a new anti-body therapy will be effective in treating the deadly E.Coli bug that has so far killed 19 people. 199 new cases have been reported in the past two days. Hope for new E. Coli treatment This new, highly toxic strain of the bacteria is worrying health officials around the world. Germany now has over 1700 people infected with the bug but hopes the new treatment will be the turning point. “On the one hand there is the plasma exchange which has been around and used for decades on the few cases we’ve had so far. And then there is – brand new as of a few weeks ago – the anti-body therapy, which influences the immune system and which is now being used for the first time on a larger number of patients,” German Nephrology Society President Professor Reinhard Brunkhorst said. Until the effectiveness of the treatment is known doctors are advising that the best way people can protect themselves is through hygiene. That said, the German Health Ministry is still recommending that people don’t eat raw lettuce, cucumbers and tomatoes. (Tanjug)
