Turkey has lately endeavored to promote a new foreign policy and impose itself as a regional leader by using its increasing economic power, the FT writes. Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has been the mediator between Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia and Croatia in the last twelve months in resolution of the BiH issues, and also in reconciliation between (Muslim community) fractions in Sandzak, the BBC reported citing London's Financial Times. The daily also pointed to the recent visit of the Turkish president to Belgrade, when he signed a number of trade and other agreements on cooperation between the two leading countries in the Balkans. "The friendship with Serbia is surprising, since the Serbian nationalism was marked by animosity toward the Ottomans for centuries. Nowadays, there is one thing that Serbia and Turkey have in common and that is the frustrating fight for the EU accession," the Financial Times says.
