A convicted terrorist sought by Italian authorities for 26 years is under arrest in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Brazilian federal police say they arrested 48-year-old Pierluigi Bragaglia on Thursday on a resort island off the Sao Paulo coast where he ran an inn. He was convicted in absentia of kidnapping, aggravated assault and other charges in 1988. A police statement released on Friday said Italian authorities began to suspect more than a year ago that Bragaglia was in Brazil. Brazilian police found him living under an assumed name in June. It was unclear if he would be extradited.

Bragaglia is accused of belonging to Italy's Armed Revolutionary Nucleus, a right-wing terrorist group linked to the 1980 bombing of Bologna's train station. He was convicted in absentia of kidnapping, aggravated assault and other charges in 1988.

A police statement released on Friday said Italian authorities began to suspect more than a year ago that Bragaglia was in Brazil.

Brazilian police found him living under an assumed name in June.

It was unclear if he would be extradited.
