Serbia donates 3 million euros in aid to children and displaced persons from Ukraine

Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia, Ana Brnabić, participated today via a video link in the International Donors' Conference for Ukraine, which is being held in Warsaw, Poland.

Based on its own experience with a large number of refugees and internally displaced persons on its territory, many of whom are still internally displaced, Republic of Serbia is aware of the importance and need to provide humanitarian assistance to civilians in conflict situations, especially children as extremely vulnerable population. Therefore, the Republic of Serbia will give a humanitarian donation in the amount of 3 million euros to help children, as well as displaced persons inside and outside Ukraine, which will be sent through the UN system, of which 1.5 million through the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) and 1.5 million through the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

Prime Minister Brnabic said that since the outbreak of the conflict, Serbia has been paying special attention to the consequences of the civilian population, the difficult humanitarian situation and the increase in the number of refugees and internally displaced persons, adding that conditions for humanitarian aid delivery stopping the conflict.

Ana Brnabić reminded that on March 24, the Republic of Serbia voted for the adoption of the Resolution on the humanitarian consequences of the aggression against Ukraine in the United Nations General Assembly. Also, on February 27, the Government of the Republic of Serbia adopted a decision on providing humanitarian aid to the endangered population of Ukraine and for the first time activated the Temporary Protection Mechanism for displaced persons coming from that country.

"The citizens of Serbia sympathize with the citizens of Ukraine in their desire to return to a normal life in which future generations will live without fear of war," Brnabic concluded in her address. The international donors' conference is jointly organized by the Prime Ministers of Poland and Sweden, Mateusz Morawiecki and Magdalena Andersson, in cooperation with the Presidents of the European Council and the European Commission, Charles Michel and Ursula von der Leyen.
