French humanitarian to be granted Serbian citizenship

Gouillon reacted to the news to say he was happy that his humanitarian work in Kosovo was recognized, and because he would be given citizenship after facing problems when applying for his residency visa.

He revealed that Serbia's interior minister heard about these problems and "immediately contacted him."

"He recognized my work in Kosovo that goes back ten years and proposed that I be given citizenship based on merit," Gouillon said.

"I am very happy because of that, for me this is proof that Serbia's top leaders have taken into account my desire to become a citizen and a part of this nation where I don't feel like a foreigner," he stressed.

Gouillon is now facing more bureaucratic hurdles in his next goal - to build another farm near Novo Brdo in Kosovo, but says he will make an effort to realize this project of great importance to the local community within the next month.

For the past decade, Gouillon and his organization have been collecting and shipping humanitarian aid to children in Serb enclaves in Kosovo, "going where nobody else goes and reaching remote places that many find to be too far away," RTS said it its report.
