BELGRADE Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic will attend the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in London on Friday. He will be one of more than 100 world leaders who will attend the ceremony and will stay to watch Serbian athletes compete over the weekend. On Saturday, June 28, Nikolic will cheer the Serbian women's volleyball team in a match with China, and then the Serbian shooters, while a cocktail party is planned for the evening at the Serbian Embassy which is expected to be attended by Serbian athletes, representatives of the diaspora and the diplomatic corps, Tanjug was told by the president's office. On Sunday, the president will visit Serbian athletes at the Olympic Village and will then follow the water polo match between Serbia and Hungary and the handball match against Spain. On Monday, Nikolic hosted Serbia's Olympic athletes headed by Vlade Divac, president of the Olympic Committee of Serbia, and wished them luck at the Games. He presented the athletes with a Serbian flag which tennis player Novak Djokovic will carry at the opening ceremony on Friday. "Qualifying for the Olympics is a big success in itself, and I hope you will make us happy as you have in the past. I hope you will bring us medals so we will have something to celebrate. Serbia will watch all your competitions and celebrate your every success. I wish you luck, Serbia is behind you," said the president. Ahead of the opening of the Olympic Games, which is being touted as an unprecedented music, dance and pyrotechnics event, Nikolić will attend a reception for heads of state and government given by Queen Elizabeth II, who will officially open the Games.
