European Handball Championship to kick off on Sunday

The 10th European Men's Handball Championship will kick off in Belgrade on Sunday at 18:15 CET with a match between Serbia and Poland.

The 10th European Men's Handball Championship will kick off in Belgrade on Sunday at 18:15 CET with a match between Serbia and Poland. Two hours later Denmark and Slovakia will play the second match of Group A. Previously, ceremonial opening of the championship will start at 17:35 CET. European Handball Championship to kick off on Sunday The games of Group B, including Germany, Sweden, the Czech Republic and Macedonia, will be played in the renovated Cair hall in the southern Serbian city of Nis. The host of Group C, comprising France, Spain, Russia and Hungary, will be Novi Sad, while Group D, including Croatia, Slovenia, Norway and Island will play in the northeastern town of Vrsac. The top three teams in every of the groups will be through to the second phase which will be held in Belgrade Arena and the Spens sports center in Novi Sad, while the final matches of the championship will be played in the largest sports hall in the Balkans - Belgrade Arena. The title won at the previous championship in Austria in 2010 will be defended by Olympic and world champion France, headed by world MVP Nikola Karabatic. The Serbian team, coached by Veselin Vukovic, hopes for its first medal after the European Championship in Spain in 1996, as well as the Olympic visa or London qualifications. The games of Group B, including Germany, Sweden, the Czech Republic and Macedonia, will be played in the renovated Čair hall in the southern Serbian city of Niš.

The host of Group C, comprising France, Spain, Russia and Hungary, will be Novi Sad, while Group D, including Croatia, Slovenia, Norway and Island will play in the northeastern town of Vršac.

The top three teams in every of the groups will be through to the second phase which will be held in Belgrade Arena and the Spens sports center in Novi Sad, while the final matches of the championship will be played in the largest sports hall in the Balkans - Belgrade Arena.
