MUP marks 200th anniversary on Friday

The Serbian Interior Ministry (MUP) will today mark the 200th anniversary since the institution's foundation. Ceremonies will be held to mark January 21, 1811, when a decision was adopted to establish of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. MUP marks 200th anniversary on Friday Duke Jakov Nenadovic was then elected the nation's first interior minister. The celebrations began on Thursday when Interior Minister Ivica Dacic laid a wreath at the monument to Jakov Nenadovic in his home village of Brankovina, near the town of Valjevo, in western Serbia. Valjevo was one of the hubs of Serb dissent and uprisings at the time of the Ottoman Turk occupation. The government and interior ministry were set up as modern Serbia was being born, several centuries after the fall of the nation's medieval kingdom. The anniversary will also be marked today at the Sava Centre in Belgrade, in the presence of state officials and representatives of embassies and the international community.

MUP marks 200th anniversary on Friday

Duke Jakov Nenadović was then elected the nation's first interior minister.
