Several dozen Serbs, who live in containers in the Serb enclave of Gracanica in central Kosovo, have been left without electricity for more than 48 hours. The residents of the container settlement, who were driven out of their homes elsewhere in the province during ethnic Albanian attacks in March 2004, have appealed to have the power restored to their dwellings. Serb IDPs left without electricity There are 12 children in the families that lost their houses five years ago, and their jobs and income ten years ago. They say that many among them suffer from chronic illnesses, and are in dire financial circumstances. The IDPs say that the Kosovo power company, KEK, notified them that they were cut off from the grid, but that "other institutions took the responsibility to pay electricity", and believe that, "if all else fails", they are entitled to the so-called humanitarian electricity. One of those suffering because of the power cuts who organized a protest said that the IDPs were unable to reach Commissioner Dragan Velic when they contacted the Commissariat for Refugees, and accused his predecessor of "never setting foot in Kosovo for four years".
