An influenza epidemic has been declared in Serbia after the virus reached the same level present in the majority of European countries, writes daily Blic. Almost half of sufferers are schoolchildren, while the segment of the population least affected are the over-65s, who received their vaccines in time. Flu epidemic declared in Serbia “After the number of flu sufferers exceeded 1,000 last week, we’ll soon be tracking the flu situation on a daily basis,“ said Predrag Kon, an epidemiologist at the Belgrade Public Health Center. Kon stated that 4,500 doses of the flu vaccine remained in Belgrade and that those who wished to get the vaccine could still do so. “There’s always good reason to get vaccinated, it's better than seeing the doses go to waste. The organism won't become immune immediately, so the vaccine might not work, but you never know who'll be the last to catch the flu,“ he said.
