Smoking ban looming in 2009 The first part of the campaign, under the slogan “Tobacco Smoke is a Serial Killer“, will run until August, while a new campaign called “Throw out Tobacco Smoke” will begin in the latter half of next year. “The aim of the campaign is to generate an active reaction and profound reflection. I’m sure that there’ll be understanding among both smokers and non-smokers for this form of awareness raising,” said Health Minister Tomica Milosavljevic. World Health Organization Regional Director Marc Danzon said that statistics indicated that tobacco was the greatest serial killer, adding that it was vital to coordinate the messages that children were receiving from the media, their parents and schools. “Addiction is very deep-rooted. As long as children are exposed to cigarette smoke, as long as parents smoke, we’ll have a closed circle,“ said Danzon. The campaign is focused on all categories of the population, and will be accompanied by print material, TV commercials, jingles and billboards.
