A working version of the first law that should organize relations between Serbia and its Diaspora was presented to the government on Tuesday. "This law indicates that the state has decided to deal with its Diaspora more seriously," Minister for the Diaspora Srdjan Sreckovic said, opening the public debate on this piece of legislation. Draft law on Diaspora presented He said that this version of the law had been sent to 2,400 addresses of associations, societies and individuals in the Diaspora, and that they are expected to send specific proposals that might be included in the final version in order to improve the law. The public debate will last until January, and the ministry plans to have the law adopted in the first half of 2009, during parliament's spring session.
