An exhibition entitled “Leonardo’s Codes and Machines“ will be opened in the gallery of the Tobbaco Factory in Nis. Some 65 models designed by Italian experts according to the sketches and pictures of Leonardo Da Vinci will be on display. Da Vinci inventions coming to Nis Nis is the first city in the world to showcase such a large number of Da Vinci’s inventions. The exhibition will include models of the first helicopter, an airplane, cannon, bicycles and coding machines. Gianni Torchiaini from Florence began building these contraptions 15 years ago as a hobby. They have since become internationally acclaimed peices. “It was very hard, because the dimensions in some drawings were not accurate, so we had to turn the pages forward to find the right fit, and measurements that we later used to make the models. For example, the model of the tank is my favorite because it is the largest and most complex,“ Torchiaini said. The exhibition has come to Serbia thanks in large part to Radovan Djuric, a Nis’born artist who lives and works in New York. “I will be very upset if at least ten percent of the Serbian population does not go and see this. I am calling on professors, I will be ashamed for them if they don’t go,” said Djuric, who is president of the Nis Art Foundation. This exhibition has so far only been seen in Florence, Chicago, Athens and Venice. Some of the models exhibited in Serbia will be taken out of the gallery in Florence for the first time. The exhibition has been organized by the Nis Art Foundation, with help from the Philip Morris International company. The exhibition will be open until June 14 in Nis, before moving to Belgrade. Admission is free.
