A shelter for homeless children opened at the B92 Rex Cultural Center last night. The shelter will provide children with a place to stay during the day, while the Bureau for Children and Youth will offer overnight accommodation. All who come to the Rex Cinema in the Cultural Center will receive a hot meal, clothing and help from on duty social workers, psychologists and nurses. Labor Minister Rasim Ljajic, who attended the opening, said that "no child should have to live on the streets." He said that the ministry will offer all the help it can to the shelter and that the state is working actively to solve the homelessness problem. “As a country we have to try and get in contact with families, where possible, to secure documents and to integrate these children into the educational system,” Ljajic said. The last shelter in Belgrade closed down ten days ago because it was not large enough to take in all of the homeless children in the city. B92 first reported about the shutting down, which happened with the onset of cold weather, leaving children in the streets with no assistance, and then stepped in to offer a temporary solution for the problem. We are calling on all those located in Belgrade to donate to the cause, especially with canned foods, winter jackets and sleeping bags and blankets. All supplies can be donated at the Center, located at 16 Jevrejska Street in Belgrade. Ljajic, center, attends the opening yesterday (Tanjug)
