BELGRADE Ivan Mrkic has met in Belgrade with Serb National Council in Croatia President and Chairman of the Croatian Parliament Foreign Policy Committee Milorad Pupovac. The meeting with the Serbian foreign minister was also attended by President of the Independent Democratic Serb Party in Croatia Vojislav Stanimirovic. FM meets with leaders of Serbs in Croatia The talks were marked by an exchange of experiences on the current position of Serbs in Croatia and the ties between the two neighbouring countries, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Last week, Mrkic said that Serbia informed all countries in which it has diplomatic missions of recent incidents targeting ethnic Serbs in Croatia, and pointed out that Serbia is doing everything to help its people in that country. The representative of ethnic Serbs in Croatia also visited Belgrade last week, where he met with Serbia's First Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic and ministers Igor Mirovic and Lazar Krstic to discuss ways of improving the position of ethnic Serbs in Croatia. A campaign against official use of the Serbian Cyrillic alphabet in Vukovar and other cities in Croatia has been ongoing for three months now. In the protests against the use of the bilingual signs, Croat extremists and war veterans are tearing down and smashing to pieces signs containing names of institutions in the Cyrillic script. As of late, chants of a Croatian Ustasha greeting from the time of the WW2 Nazi Independent State of Croatia (NDH), during which genocide was committed against Serbs, have become increasingly frequent. Director of the Jasenovac Memorial Park Natasa Jovicic and other employees who condemned statements and acts extolling the NDH and the shouts of the Ustasha greeting received threats containing accusations that they are traitors with anti-Croat sentiments. On December 3, Croatian Minister of Education, Science and Sports Zeljko Jovanovic received threatening messages, containing an Ustasha-styled anti-Serb phrases. The caucus of the Independent Democratic Serb Party in the Croatian parliament received an e-mail on December 6 which contains insults against the Serb minority in Croatia and death threats aimed against President of the Serb National Council Milorad Pupovac.
