Croatians vote in local elections
Local elections are underway in Croatia. Polling stations opened at 7:00 CET on Sunday and 3.7 million Croatian citizens are eligible to vote.

ZAGREB Local elections are underway in Croatia. Polling stations opened at 7:00 CET on Sunday and 3.7 million Croatian citizens are eligible to vote. Around 6,500 polling stations will be opened until 19:00 CET. Croatians vote in local elections The Croatians citizens will choose 20 district heads, 555 mayors and municipal chief and their deputies. The voters will also choose a new Zagreb mayor. In districts in which ethnic minorities make up more than five percent of the population and in municipalities and towns in which they make up more than 15 percent of the population, members of ethnic minorities can vote for their own deputy mayors and deputy heads of municipal chiefs and district heads. According to the State Electoral Commission, there are 101 Serb candidates for deputies of local officials. Regular local elections are held the third week in May every four years. The local elections represent a real test for the ruling left-center coalition headed by the Social Democratic Party that lost to the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) in the elections for members of the European Parliament. The Croatians citizens will choose 20 district heads, 555 mayors and municipal chief and their deputies.The voters will also choose a new Zagreb mayor.
