ZAGREB Croatia’s Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic has accused the opposition Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) of causing “chauvinistic outbursts in public”. “It is sad that we need to deal with inter-ethnic relations in the middle of the current huge economic and social crisis, but this is because our political opponents are not capable of competing in any other field except on the field of a heavy nationalistic gathering of Croatian voters,” he told Zagreb-based daily Jutarnji list. Croatian PM accuses opposition HDZ of stirring up chauvinism Commenting on a series of inappropriate anti-Serb statements in Croatia, he said he believed that the “current outbursts of chauvinism are planned and realized by the HDZ”. Milanovic has rejected claims that a recent dismissal of Croatian Radio Television (HRT) journalists and editors had anything to do with his criticism over a news program in which MP Ruza Tomasic made several inappropriate nationalistic statements. “It is almost below my personal dignity to respond to accusations that I have anything to do with any staffing changes in HRT. I do not and never will. I am not planning on interfering with anyone’s editing policies. This government will never do that, just like Ivica Racan never did it,” the Croatian prime minister pointed out. The latest outburst of anti-Serb sentiment took place during a World Cup qualifier match between Serbia and Croatia in Zagreb on Friday when Croat fans chanted "Kill the Serb".
