Croatia is nearing the end of the accession talks and will soon become an EU member state but that is not enough, Croatian President Ivo Josipovic said. He stressed that Croatia also needed to help its neighbors join the EU. “Croatia must help neighbors join EU” According to the Croatian television network TV Nova, the Croatian president released this statement on the last day of his visit to the U.S. in a public address at Harvard discussing Croatia's EU accession 15 years after Dayton Peace Accords and 20 years after the beginning of war clashes in the region. “The region has to be aware that Europe will not be complete without all southeastern European countries,” he said. “We have to build trust in the region, face the past and try to find a common history. I am quite certain that everyone in the region cannot have the same view of the past, but we have to have the same fundamental principles and the same values,” pointed out Josipovic, who sees Croatia's role in the EU as a bridge between Europe and others. “We have already started to implement such a policy. We have presented the Croatian translation of Acquis Communautaire of the EU to Bosnia-Herzegovina and Serbia, which is a symbolic first step,” the Croatian president stated and pointed to the importance of security and economic cooperation in the region.
