Bosnian police have discovered some 50 kilograms of explosives in the southern Herzegovina region.

Bosnian police have discovered some 50 kilograms of explosives in the southern Herzegovina region. The discovery came following a tip from a man claiming it was hidden by Muslim radicals, RFE/RL reports. Bosnian police find explosives near Mostar The state law enforcement agency, SIPA, found the explosive on February 18 at an illegal waste dump near the town of Mostar. Police then searched several locations in the nearby town of Jablanica where self-described Wahhabi Elvis Alicic said they could find other Wahhabis who had hidden the explosive. Wahhabis are followers of the Saudi-originated school of ultraorthodox Islam. But Boris Grubesic, a spokesman for the Bosnian prosecutor's office, said the tip proved to be false, after which police detained Alicic. Grubesic said Alicic, 31, who is also known as Abujafir, was charged for falsely alerting the police. Alicic said earlier that he had been offered $9,000 to blow up the cross that Bosnian Croats erected on Hum Hill, on their side of the divided city, after the 1992-95 war. He also claimed to have been offered money to attack the U.S. Consulate in Mostar.
