Since Montenegro’s recognition of Kosovo independence, security around Montenegrin Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic has been significantly ramped up. According to Podgorica daily Vijesti, which quotes unnamed sources within the police department, the security of Djukanovic and his family has been stepped up because of possible threats to his safety. Montenegrin PM’s security on high alert “The police, for now, do not have any operative data that would point to any suspicions, but the prime minister’s security has been raised to the highest level,” the unnamed source said. According to electronic media in Podgorica, in a break with traditional practice, the majority of ministers have also been under close police surveillance since last week’s recognition.
