Đukanović left out of Italian indictment

The District Anti-Mafia Department (DDA) in Bari has requested charges to be filed against seven Serbian and Montenegrin nationals. The list includes some close associates of Montenegrin Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic, but his name has been left out. Djukanovic left out of Italian indictment The group is suspected of involvement in smuggling of cigarettes between Montenegro and the Italian province of Puglia during the 1994-2002 period. The DDA requested charges to be filed against Branislav Micunovic, Veselin Barovic, Miroslav Ivanisevic, Branko Vujosevic, Dusanka Pesic, Stanko Subotic and Andrija Draskovic. Seven Italian have also been indicted in the case. Italy's ANSA news agency reports that charges will not be filed against Djukanovic himself, "owing to his diplomatic immunity". Besides cigarette smuggling, the suspects are also charged with assistance in negotiations between the Montenegrin mafia and a criminal group from the province of Puglia on establishing control over the cigarette smuggling operations. ANSA adds that Djukanovic was suspected of issuing a license to Swiss national Franco de la Torre to import thousands of tons of cigarettes a month to Montenegro, which he later shipped to Puglia.
