Serbia, Montenegro, Hungary railway deal

The Serbian, Montenegrin and Hungarian railways and the Port of Bar Wednesday signed a memorandum on cooperation.

The Serbian, Montenegrin and Hungarian railways and the Port of Bar Wednesday signed a memorandum on cooperation. The document stipulates that a direct railway line for container transport between Budapest and the Montenegrin coastal town of Bar is to be established. Serbia, Montenegro, Hungary railway deal The memorandum was signed by chairmen of the board of directors Imre Kovacz of the Hungarian Railway, Serbian Railways' Milenko Sarancic, Miodrag Gomilanovic of the Montenegrin Railway and Predrag Ivanovic, representing the Port of Bar. The executives said they were prepared to increase the quantity of goods that is transported in containers from Bar to Budapest, and added that the container transport was the future of regional development. The participants agreed that northern European ports were had too much container traffic and that the owners of goods and shippers were looking for alternative transport routes. The Port of Bar has a good position for container transport, because it is close to eastern and central Europe, and is directly connected with Belgrade by rail, participants said and added that all countries would benefit from a direct railway line between Budapest and Bar. Ivanovic said that the capacity of the port's container terminal was 50,000 units per year and that this could be doubled.
