"Mass return of Serbs to Kosovo by end of new govt's term"

"In the past weeks, we have launched a serious project for returns to Kosovo and Metohija and I expect that we will also have serious results by the end of the new government's term," Djuric said, noting that the expelled Serbs would be returning to communities where they would be secure.

Serbia will boost its presence and work with Kosovo and Metohija Serbs in the period to come, he said.

"I want to send a message that Serbia will never give up on fighting for Kosovo and Metohija and protecting our people and our legitimate interests, cultural and historical heritage and statehood, which dates back to medieval times," Djuric said.

The new government will start reorganizing public services in Kosovo and Metohija in the autumn, Djuric said, adding that Serbian institutions in the province had been operating in much the same way since 1999.

"What we want is to create conditions to not only keep the present number of people there but create new jobs, especially in communities where there are young people," he said.

Djuric also revealed he would continue at the helm of the Office in the coming period, and that he will "still strive that the fight for Kosovo continues even more strongly and energetically."
