"The question is whether the trust of citizens will be enough, or if five or six parties will join together and say - we don't want Vucic for prime minister," Stefanovic said.

He added that "election results certainly will not be such that the SNS-led (pre-election) coalition won't be able to cross the threshold - but the possibility of the strongest party not participating in the government is not ruled out."

Commenting on the relationship with with the coalition partner in the outgoing cabinet - the Socialists (SPS) - Stefanovic said it will be "legitimate if they don't want to once again join a coalition with the SNS."

"It seems to me the SPS is thinking about not wanting a coalition with us," he added.

Stefanovic also spoke about the recent murder of folk singer Jelena Marjanovic to say that he is "expecting the final results" in the investigation "at any moment."

On Wednesday, Aleksandar Vucic said that the murderer "will be arrested in the next 48 hours."
