European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker has scheduled an extraordinary meeting devoted to the refugee crisis.

W. Balkans leaders invited to EU's refugee crisis meeting

Juncker has invited leaders of the countries on the Western Balkan migrant route, Serbia among them. According to the EC website, other participants are Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Romania, and Slovenia.

"In view of the unfolding emergency in the countries along the Western Balkans migratory route, there is a need for much greater cooperation, more extensive consultation and immediate operational action," the European Commission announced on Wednesday.

A statement added that "the objective of the meeting will be to agree common operational conclusions which could be immediately implemented."

The summit will also be attended by the UN high commissioner for refugees, the European Council president, and representatives of the European Asylum Support Office (EASO) and the European Agency for the Management of Operational Cooperation at the External Borders of the Member States of the European Union (Frontex).
