Serbia "not neutral" in Ukrainian crisis - GMF official

When it comes to Ukraine, Serbia is neither non-aligned nor neutral, says Karen Donfried, president of the German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF).

"Serbia is trying to make progress on the path to membership of the European Union and at the same time retain a close relationship with Russia, and nobody says it will be easy," Donfried said in a statement published by Belgrade-based daily Politika on Monday.

Asked how much that position might make it easier or more difficult for Serbia to perform its OSCE chairmanship duties in 2015, Donfried said that that "the road that Serbia had traveled over the past 25 years was really extraordinary and the chairmanship of the OSCE was an opportunity for the country to demonstrate its leadership abilities."
