Saša Radulović claims that the financial abuses that led to the arrest of former heads of SIEPA are "only some of the omissions in the work of the agency."

Ex-minister: More wrongdoings at agency

The prosecution believes that fake contracts enabled some individuals to collect both state salaries and fees, and that the total sum amounted to over one million euros.

This practice that lasted through the mandates of several SIEPA directors was discovered by the Ministry of Economy, which, after an internal investigation, filed a criminal complaint with the Prosecutor's Office.

Radulović, who from September until January served as Serbia's economy minister, says the evidence was "obvious for those who wanted to see it."

"The fact is that state officials behave in such an arrogant manner, that the parasitic system that is eating away at the society is rooted so deeply that the did not even try to hide it. So it was pretty easy to process the cases and file criminal charges quickly," he stated.

Radulović thinks that it is "impossible" that his predecessor in the post of Serbia's economy minister, Mlađan Dinkić, was not aware of the practice.

Politika daily journalist Dušan Telesković, on the other hand, says it is "questionable" whether Dinkić knew what officials from his URS party - Jasna Matić being one - were up to, and that, if that was the case, "the police will have to prove it and take the investigation all the way to its completion."

In his reaction to the news today, Radulović also noted that the prosecution received information pointing to the suspicion that SIEPA employees "refunded a part of their salaries to the agency, after which that money ended up in partisan coffers."

The Ministry of Economy's complaint also cited suspicion that taxpayer money was used to repeatedly pay for the same trade show booths and various services procured through offshore companies, while state subsidies were used "to racketeer businesspeople."
