Nikolić indicated that he expects the Serb Progressive Party (SNS), which he had founded and led before stepping down after he was elected president, to be the strongest political force after the elections.All analyses point towards the SNS winning around 43 percent of votes, he added, explaining why he thinks that the Progressives will form the government and that their leader Aleksandar Vučić will be at its helm.
According to Nikolić, based on the party's achievements since it has taken power one and a half years ago, the SNS deserves to implement the ideas it has been working on so far.
Commenting on the statement by outgoing Prime Minister and leader of the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) Ivica Dačić that presidential elections should be held as well, Nikolić said that he had "no intention of resigning."
He explained that before early presidential elections could take place, Serbia's parliament would first need to establish if the Constitution had been violated, which would then need to be confirmed by the Constitutional Court of Serbia.
Nikolić noted that he "did not violate the Constitution" and that, unlike all presidents before him, was acting as the president of all citizens.
He also stressed that "nobody could object to the manner in which he has been performing his duty, as he is representing Serbia around the world in the best possible way."
During the interview, the president also discussed Kosovo and the situation in Ukraine.
