Dačić: No greater sacrifice than that of Đinđić

"There is no greater sacrifice and recognition than this," Dačić said.

Đinđić, at the time leader of the Democratic Party (DS) and Serbian prime minister, was assassinated in front of the headquarters of the Serbian government on March 12, 2003.

Đinđić was the first prime minister after the fall of Slobodan Milošević in 2000 and the accession to power of the Democratic Opposition of Serbia (DOS). The government headed by him was formed on January 25, 2001.

Former JSO commander Milorad Ulemek was sent to jail for 40 years for organizing the murder. The same sentence was handed down to JSO member Zvezdan Jovanović, as the direct perpetrator.

The political background of the assassination has not yet been discovered.
