BELGRADE Tomislav Nikolic said on Tuesday that the identification of the people suspected of killing Slavko Curuvija and the information gathered would lead to justice. He also believes it will serve as a warning against repeating such a vicious crime. President comments on Curuvija case Commenting on the results of the commission for investigating journalist killings, the president said he had once told Curuvija's brother "he would one day find the killers." "Slavko Curuvija's murder, which was unsolved until now, has been a burden on Serbia's society for too long and posed as the basis for conflict between different political factions," he said in a statement. "At one time, while following the policy of the party I belonged to, I spoke negatively about Curuvija, who had already been dead, which was used and will be used for a long time for political attacks on me. No one is saying that I then told his brother I would one day find the killers," he pointed out. Nikolic also underscored he was "proud that the changes in society initiated by the change of government in Serbia made it possible for brave and honest people who cannot be stopped in reaching their goal to take up many of the most responsible posts in the government and make Serbia a fair country ruled by law." "It is now perfectly clear that the murder was organized and committed in a monstrous way by a part of the government apparatus, but it is going to remain unknown why no government revealed that until now," Nikolic noted. According to Nikolic, the operation was conducted in secrecy and with patience, in the hope of identifying those who gave the order and those who committed the murder while allowing all honest members of government agencies who have done their job conscientiously and according to the law under any government to live proudly in the country they have protected, willing to even lay down their lives for it. "I would like to congratulate the few who were led by Aleksandar Vucic and knew about the operation, but maintained its secrecy," the president said. "It is now clear that the operations to find important drug dealers have to be conducted in the same fashion, so those meant to conduct the operation would not be obstructed," he concluded.
